Improving Access to Care through Trust in Health Professionals

On May 9 and 10, in the Senate and the National Assembly respectively, parliamentarians definitively adopted the bill aimed at improving access to care by strengthening trust in health professionals.

Majority Vote for Significant Changes

At the end of the Joint Committee, the senators, followed by the deputies, overwhelmingly approved the RIST bill. Of the 233 voters in the National Assembly, 227 votes were cast, with 226 votes in favour and only one vote against.

What's Changing for Podiatrists

The adoption of this law, which will be promulgated within 15 days of its adoption and published in the Official Journal, marks a turning point in the daily practice of chiropodists. The new skills include:

  • Prescribing plantar orthoses as a first-line treatment
  • Direct assessment of podiatric risk in diabetic patients
  • Prescribing, if necessary, appropriate preventive care sessions as a first step

A Progress Welcomed by the Order of Chiropodists-Podiatrists

The Order of Chiropodists and Podiatrists welcomes this progress, described as "common sense measures" by Ms. Stéphanie RIST, rapporteur of the proposed law, following the final vote in the National Assembly.
